The Moby concert at the Filmnächte in Dresden was magical. When we reached the grounds shortly after 8 pm, coming across the grandstand and down the steps, we were lost for words at first: so many happy faces. And all that anticipation paid off—Moby and his band were on absolutely top form that evening, played all the big hits and sent the crowd into raptures.

As ever, Moby didn't mince his words when it came to political matters. He urged the audience to defend democracy in Germany at all costs. He used, among other things, a recorded statement from Jane Goodall to underline his fight and his commitment to the animals and to a vegan world.

Tracks like "Bodyrock", "This World" and "Go" brought the stage by the Elbe to the boil—remarkably dust-free, given the heatwaves of the past few weeks. "Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad?" created a shared, reflective mood. And when his friend David Bowie got a mention and "Heroes" rang out, everyone was utterly spellbound. "We Are All Made of Stars" broke down the last of the defences, and tears of pure bliss began to flow. This evening with one of the greatest, most singular artists of our time was full of wistfulness, joy and good vibes. For me, it's easily the event of the year so far. I don't think I can put it into words any other way.

My event of 2026 so far!

The atmosphere as a whole was something special—something you rarely experience at shows, particularly ones of this scale. A sense of belonging ran through the rows; you felt connected in nostalgia, resistance and music, almost like a rave in the early 2000s. I genuinely kept feeling transported back there, which lent the evening yet another radiant quality. And even though I'm sure I wasn't the only one feeling a bit worse for wear the next morning, I'll certainly be drawing on this for a long time to come.

As a surprise, the final encore brought a guest appearance from WestBam. It sent a fresh surge of euphoria through the crowd, tipping the dancing masses into one last frenzy just before the closing chord.

The event was sold out, and yet everything was superbly organised. The security staff were friendly while still always making one thing clear: the escape routes have to stay clear. Paramedics were in sight at all times too, which was a rather reassuring feeling in the hot weather. I've definitely seen that handled differently at concerts of this size.
