Moby just announced his latest album, "future quiet". And the news is getting even better for all fans of the music/animal rights icon: today sees the release of a brand-new version of the song "When It's Cold I'd Like To Die", which is going to be the first track on the LP. The piece was created in collaboration with Jacob Lusk and has been topping the Spotify charts since it appeared in the Netflix series "Stranger Things".

The new album is titled "future quiet". It's due out on February 20th via BMG. Here's the tracklist for you:

  1. "When It's Cold, I'd Like To Die" (ft. Jacob Lusk)
  2. "This Was Never Meant For Us"
  3. "Retreat"
  4. "LiEstrella Del Mar" (ft. Elise Serenelle)
  5. "Ruhe"
  6. "Mott St 1992"
  7. "Precious Mind" (ft. India Carney)
  8. "Tallinn"
  9. "On Air" (ft. serpentwithfeet)
  10. "Selene"
  11. "La Vide"
  12. "Great Absence"
  13. "Mono No Aware"
  14. "The Opposite of Fear"

"future quiet" will be Moby's 23rd studio album, no less. For the musician, the record marks a new chapter, divided into fourteen tracks. With the album, he combines modern piano minimalism, immersive ambient soundscapes, and once again a series of exciting vocal collaborations. Snowhite PR writes:

"On this album, Moby reflects on the tension between hyperconnected modern life and the deep human need for silence."

And this is what Moby himself says:

Moby – "future quiet"Moby – "future quiet"

"'future quiet' is, unsurprisingly, quiet. Let me be clear: I love bombast. I love excess and loudness. But the louder and crazier the world gets, the more I need, as a listener and a musician, a retreat of quietude. For me—and hopefully for others—'future quiet' is such a retreat. The world is obviously more demanding than ever. The world is yelling at us, our screens are yelling at us, and other people are yelling at us. To retreat from that yelling, we need safety and sanctuary. That, for me, is the purpose of 'future quiet'. The writing and recording were a sanctuary for me, and I hope that the listening is a sanctuary for you."

Providing a fitting opener for the album is the extremely exciting new orchestral version of "When It's Cold I'd Like To Die", to which Jacob Lusk, as already mentioned, has contributed vocals. Moby explains:

"I first heard Jacob's voice on KCRW when they started playing 'Love and Hate in A Different Time'. Like everyone who has heard Jacob sing, I immediately fell in love with his voice. After hearing him on the radio, I spent weeks tracking him down and asking him to work with me. Luckily for me, he agreed. The results speak for themselves, as his vocals on 'When It's Cold I'd Like To Die' are—as I can say with some objectivity—transcendent."

Gig tip: Moby will be performing live in Dresden and Bonn this year!

  • 11.08.26 − Dresden / Open-Air at Filmnächte am Elbufer
  • 18.08.26 − Bonn / KUNST!RASEN Festival in Bonn-Gronau

Moby first released the original song (with vocalist Mimi Goese) in 1995 on his LP "Everything Is Wrong". After the song featured in the first and fourth series of "Stranger Things", the musician gained a completely new generation of listeners. It even went so far that the track became Moby's most-streamed title, going viral on TikTok. Moby reports:

"The song reaches hundreds of millions of people every year, which is both wonderful and surprising—especially given that it's an obscure song with no drums or bass that was never released as a single."

Following the release of his first single, "Go" in 1991, things took off for Moby. He has since made a name for himself as a singer, songwriter, producer, author, filmmaker, and animal rights activist. His musical works have been certified platinum multiple times, and the committed vegan actively campaigns for the fair treatment of animals.

On his journey, Moby reports:

"Growing up, I played in hardcore punk rock bands and DJ'd extremely loud hip-hop, house, and industrial music," says Moby. "At the same time, I needed the sanctuary of quiet records like This Mortal Coil, The Cocteau Twins, Eno & Bowie's ambient work, Górecki, Arvo Pärt, and others. 'future quiet' is definitely a result of all those influences—I can't count the times I've listened to 'Song to the Siren' or Joy Division's 'Atmosphere'."

Today, his influence extends far beyond the music industry. He publishes books, essays, and photographs, collaborating with world-renowned artists in film, dance, and visual art. In his work, he continually reinvents himself, though introspection arguably plays the most significant role in his art. It represents the common thread. He openly addresses topics such as vulnerability, mental health, recovery, and empathy, speaks about sustainability and climate protection, and gives animals a voice.
